Jumpstart your Success: 3 STEPS to RISE UP FROM ROCK BOTTOM

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t want to be successful in their life. In some shape, form, or fashion everyone wants to accomplish certain goals, or fulfill a dream. The unfortunate reality is most people don’t know how to achieve success or even jumpstart their journey to success. In this post, I’m going to share with you 3 steps that jumpstarted my journey towards success in hopes that it helps you do the same:

"If you change your mindset and behavior, then you will change your life."

Success is unbiased in who obtains it, but very few actually achieves it on a consistent basis. If you’re unwilling to change your mindset and behavior, you’ll be unwilling to make the necessary sacrifices to be successful.

I don’t care how bad you want to be successful or achieve some level of success, if your mind is not in the right place you will not accomplish your goals. How bad do you really want it? Are you truly sick and tired of being sick and tired? That was the case for me. In 2011, my wife and I made only $13,000 between us both along with a one year old daughter. The breaking point for me was when both of our cars got repossessed and we were about to get evicted out of our apartment. I knew I had to change my way of thinking if I was going to avoid hitting rock bottom. What I did was:

  1. Get a better paying job

  2. Go back to school to earn my degree

  3. Move to a place I could afford to live

  • Get a better paying job- Ok, this is the most practical thing I can tell you. If your income is less than your expenses (money that’s leaving your pockets) you need to get a better paying job, or get an additional job to supplement your income. Don’t be afraid to go to a temp agency, or a local job fair. The goal needs to be, get a job that will make your income getter than your expenses.

  • Go back to school to earn your degree- The best decision I made for myself and my family was to go back to school and complete my bachelor’s degree. I was a very average student in high school and that’s being nice to myself. I realized if I was going to finish school I had to be laser focused and allocated time to complete homework. Now if you’re not a college person, which is ok. You still need to have a trade that will make you money. My wife decided to become a truck driver, yes a truck driver. She knew she didn’t want to attend school for 4 years so she decided to go to truck driving school for 5 weeks and now she’s making great money. By the way, trucking or logistics is a great industry to get into for women, there’s a high demand for you ladies. The last option is the military. The military is a great option if you want earn money, gain an education, and save money while doing it. This is very good option for those who want to serve their country and earn a living while doing it. Just be mindful there is a chance you may be away from your family for extended periods of time.

  • Move to a place you can afford- Listen I understand you want to stay in a place that you can be proud of that’s safe with nice amenities. However, if it’s breaking the bank for you it’s just not worth it. If you’re not staying in the nicest neighborhood in town that’s ok. That doesn’t mean you have to stay in the worse neighborhood in town, it just mean you need to rent where you fit in. My wife and I were renting an apartment that was taking up 65% of our income. That left us with very little room for other bills, fun, or food for that matter. We looked like we had it together, but we were in deep debt. Don’t do what we did. Find a place that’s safe, affordable, and functional that’s all you really need.
